Shots Fired As Bloomington Police Confront Armed Robber

Last updated on Thursday, October 30, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - At 12:19 a.m. this morning, two Bloomington Police officers confronted an armed robbery outside of the Circle K in the 4400 block of East Third Street.

As the masked man exited the store, police ordered the man to drop his weapon.

The man then pointed the weapon at the officers and that is when one of the officers fired.

The suspect fled on foot to the area east of the store. Officers and a K-9 searched the area but were unable to locate the man.

"It is unknown if the suspect was struck or injured from the gunfire," says Bloomington Police Captain Joe Qualters.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6-0, thin build wearing a black athletic-type suit and was wearing some type of a white covering over his face.

No officers or store personnel were injured in the incident.

Qualters says that an internal investigation will be conducted regarding the officers' discharge of his weapon in the line of duty.

The case remains under investigation with an ongoing effort to determine if all of the robberies might be connected.

This armed robbery at the Circle K was the third incident that had taken place throughout Monroe County within two hours at gas and convenience stores.

One robbery is being investigated by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and another by the Ellettsville Police Department. Police believe it could be the same suspect.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call police.
