Bloomingfoods' Workers, Member-Owners, Rally In Support Of Worker Rights

Last updated on Tuesday, October 7, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - Workers and member-owners from Bloomington’s largest grocery cooperative, Bloomingfoods, will rally and march today, in support of Bloomingfoods workers’ right to choose a union voice at work through a free and fair process.

They will then march to the co-op board of directors' meeting, where workers' and co-op member-owners will ask the Bloomingfoods' board to respect their workers' choices.

Hundreds of workers are employed at Bloomingfoods' five locations across Bloomington, and have been standing together and sticking up for the right to a real voice at work. They are asking their company to respect their decision to form a union and live up to the community-first values Bloomingfoods was founded on.

Local Bloomingfoods member-owners have been demonstrating their support, as well. Hundreds have signed a petition supporting the workers' efforts and asking that their co-op not use co-op money to oppose a union of Bloomingfoods' workers. More than a thousand have also shown their support on Facebook.

They will be joined by local union grocery workers, who already know the difference a union voice can make and support the Bloomingfoods' workers effort to join them in raising standards for retail grocery workers across Bloomington.
