Last updated on Monday, October 27, 2014

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Saturday after his motorcycle was struck by a truck at the intersection of Mitchell and Sandpit Road Saturday.

62-year-old Stephen Cole, of 1810 Seventh St. who was wearing a helmet, suffered internal head injuries.

According to a Bedford Police report, the accident was reported at 5:06 p.m.

Police say 73-year-old William Rush, of 1802 Saddler Drive, was traveling south on Mitchell Road in a 2014 Chevrolet and was stopped in the left travel lane waiting to turn left onto Sandpit Road.

Rush told police there was a glare from the sun, and he thought the path was clear and proceeded to make the turn

That was when he collided with a 2000 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Cole who was traveling north on Mitchell Road in the right lane.

The motorcycle was knocked to the ground and Cole was partially ejected.

Cole was conscious at the scene, but couldn't respond to officers.

Cole first was taken to the IU Health Bedford Hospital emergency room and then flown to Indianapolis for treatment.

Rush was not injured.
