(BROWNSTOWN) - A Brownstown woman was hospitalized early Sunday morning in Indianapolis after she was burned in a house fire.
The cause of that fire, reported at 12:36 a.m. Sunday at 500 W. Spring St., remains under investigation.
At least three other people were in home at the time, including the husband of the 39-year-old woman.
The names of the injured woman, her husband and the others in the home are not being released pending notification of family members, says Brownstown Police Officer John Reichenbacker.
The injured woman, who also suffered from smoke inhalation, was treated by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services before she was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. She was later flown by air ambulance to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.
Investigators with the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office and the Indiana State Police are working with Brownstown police and fire departments to determine the cause of the fire that destroyed the 1,912-square-foot, one-and-a-half story wood rental home owned by Hershel Forgey.
The woman was renting the home from Forgery, and one or two of the grandchildren lived there along one of the grandchildren's spouses.
Brownstown Assistant Chief Travis McElfresh says it took firefighters about an hour to put the fire out. Driftwood Township volunteers in extinguishing the fire.
Brownstown firefighters and police officers remained on the scene for much of Sunday as evidence was gathered by investigators.
