(JACKSON CO.) - A mosquito-borne virus that can leave humans with symptoms of fever, headache, neck stiffness, muscle weakness and confusion has shown up in Jackson County.

Mother Nature, however, may help out by keeping the mosquitoes testing positive for the West Nile virus at bay, a health official said.

"Below 60 degrees, they won't come out," said Paul Ramsey, an environmental health director with the county health department. "Once we get the first freeze, we will be done for the year."
