Tri Kappa Candlelight Tour Kicks Off 68th Annual Persimmon Festival Saturday

Last updated on Tuesday, September 16, 2014

(MITCHELL) - The Tri Kappa Candlelight Tour at Spring Mill State Park will kick off the 68th Annual Persimmon Festival Saturday.

In traditional dress, Tri Kappa members and their families, along with Spring Mill employees and their friends, will be reenacting the pioneer life of their ancestors by inhabiting the houses and buildings of the restored village to make it come alive, as it would have been in the mid 1800's.

Pioneer crafts, demonstrations, and entertainment by many musical groups will be a part of the tour. Visitors are asked to please bring a flashlight. Tri Kappa members will sell concession and food items in the Carriage House.
The tour is from 4-9 p.m. Park admission is $5 for in-state vehicles and $7 for out-of-state vehicles. The village tour is free.

According to Spring Mill State Park Manager Mark Young, buses will shuttle visitors from the Lakeview Activity Center (nature center) and visitors with overnight accommodations from the campground and inn parking lots to the village.
Tri Kappa is a statewide sorority, which supports many community and state charity, educational and cultural projects. The Mitchell chapter has sponsored the Spring Mill Candlelight Tour since 1967. It has become a popular kick-off event for the week long Persimmon Festival in Mitchell.
