Three Juveniles Short Out Huntingburg Substation Leaving Area Without Power

Last updated on Thursday, September 18, 2014

(DUBOIS CO.) - Huntingburg police say, security video taken near Huntingburg’s central electrical substation revealed that three juveniles were involved in an incident that left a lot of the city without power Sunday night.

The power went out just after 8 p.m.

A video at the substation at Sixth and Main streets, shows three juveniles throwing a 3-foot piece of metal conduit over the fence. The conduit landed on the hot wires and caused the substation to short.

Power was knocked out south of State Road 64 and west of U.S. 231 from 12th Street south.

Other than a burned wire, the substation was not damaged and power was restored to the area within about half an hour.
Police have identified the juveniles and they will likely be chaged with a felony charge of criminal mischief. The crime is enhanced to a felony because the damage caused a substantial interruption or impairment of utility service rendered to the public.
