(WASHINGTON) - Over 100 members of sheriff's departments across the state are undergoing state mandated advanced jail training in Daviess County this week.

Executive Director of the Indiana Sheriff's Association, Steve Luce, says a jailer has to undergo 40 hours of pre-basic training and then 16 hours a year after that.

Some of the training took place at Washington's East Side Park.

Daviess County Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit, says jailers are getting instruction on a variety of topics including liability, medical care, use of force and even the kind of food that's served to county prisoners.
