Huey's BBQ Owner Can No Longer Smoke Meat For His Business At His Home

Last updated on Thursday, September 25, 2014

BEDFORD - Greg Lane, owner of Huey’s BBQ will no longer be able to prepare meat for his part-time mobile business at his home in the 400 block of Ravine Drive.

The Bedford Board of Zoning Appeals rejected Lane's request for a variance that would allow him to smoke meat for his business at his home after more than 40 people singed a petition complaining about the smell and the smoke.

The Times-mail reported that Lane told the board he has only smoked meat at his home four or five times this spring and that he does it at night so as not to bother his neighbors.

The pork is smoked, cooking for about 15 hours over low heat.

But Bedford Plan Director Dan Kirk say that violates the zoning code by conducting business activities in area residential area.

Kirk told board members that several of the residents in the area had contacted him about the terrible smell and the smoke and the fact that Lane was conducting a business in a residential zone.
