Martinsville Woman Arrested On Drug Charges

Last updated on Monday, September 8, 2014

(GREENWOOD) - A Martinsville woman was arrested Thursday while allegedly doing drugs in the Johnson County Sheriff Department’s parking lot.

Around 2 a.m. Thursday, deputies were alerted that a woman was possibly doing drugs in a parked Chevrolet Malibu in the sheriff's department parking lot.

Officers approached the vehicle to find a 7-year-old boy standing outside with a blanket. Inside the car, officers found 32-year-old Melissa Copas, as well as a mirror with a line of white powder laid on it and an orange and white capsule later determined to be amphetamine.

Copas told officers she was there to pick up an inmate. She also admitted that she had driven to the jail on a suspended driver's license.

Copas was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
