Man Arrested After Placing Man In Headlock And Punching Him In Face

Last updated on Monday, September 8, 2014

(WORTHINGTON) - 27-year-old Robert J. Clifft was arrested early Thursday morning after officers were called to investigate a fight-in-progress at an apartment complex in Worthington.

Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputies arrived at the apartment and found a man who told police he had been attacked by Clifft. Officers found Clifft at the top of a stairway yelling at people.

Police say Clifft started the fight because the other man had been smoking syntehtic marijuana, which Clifft was opposed to.

According to police, Clifft had entered several apartments without permission and attacked the other man. Clifft allegedly put the man in a headlock and hit him in the mouth multiple times.

The man's lower lip was busted and he had several red marks and scratches on his arms, upper torso, and neck.

When asked how long it had been since he smoked synthetic marijuana, the man told police it had been about five days.

The police searched the vehicles of both Clifft and the man who said Clifft assaulted him, and did not find anything illegal inside of either vehicle.

Witnesses told police that Clifft had battered a second man by head butting him.

Police say Clifft had scratches on his face, neck, and upper torso, and that Clifft wanted to dispute his charges despite the multiple witnesses who stated that he was the aggressor.

Clifft was arrested on three counts of residential entry and two counts of battery resulting in bodily injury.
