Linton Man Arrested After Pawning Stolen Goods

(LINTON) - A Linton man was arrested for allegedly stealing around $8,000 worth of professional grade equipment including various speakers, a mixer board and microphones from a garage.

39-year-old Billy Mitchell was arrested on Wednesday on charges of felony burglary.

According to Greene County detectives, Mitchell stole the equipment from a trailer parked in a detached garage in Jasonville on August 19.

On August 25, investigators discovered Mitchell had pawned the items at a shop in Terre Haute on August 10 and a Bloomington Pawn shop on August 15.

Mitchell is also accused of pawning a Marlin rifle and a Baikal shotgun at the Terre Haute store. Those items were also reported stolen.

Police went Mitchell's home on Wednesday afternoon, but Mitchell refused to answer the door. Mitchell, then attempted to jumped from a window but didn't after seeing an officer at the back of the home.

Mitchell was arrested after officers entered the home and brief chase down a hallway.

Mitchell admitted that he stole the equipment to support his family because he could not get a job.

Mitchell told police he had bought the guns from a Vincennes teen for $30 and knew the guns were probably stolen because he got them so cheap.

Mitchell then refused to cooperate with police, refused to give any more details about the burglary and theft.
