(PAOLI) - The leading types of unintentional injuries for children under 18 in the United States are falls, being hit or pierced by an object, and overexertion, according to a study from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.

In an effort to keep children safe, the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is hosting a forum that will explore how to prevent unintentional childhood injuries, the number one cause of death for children in the United States.

The forum will feature two speakers: Jody Yoder, Safe Kids state coordinator and project manager, will share details on new requirements for the Orange County coalition and discuss why community support is essential to program efforts. Deana Davis, coordinator for Safe Kids Orange County, will provide information about how to help and support the initiative at the community level.

After the presentation, there will also be an opportunity for attendees to network and promote their programs. Please bring brochures, business cards and materials to share.

The forum will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1p.m. on Sept. 11, at Super Burger, 600 W. Main St., Paoli, 47454.

As part of IYI's Youth Worker Cafe program, the forum is free and lunch will be served, but reservations are required by today. RSVP at Reservations may also be made by contacting IYI Statewide Outreach Manager Debbie Jones via phone at (317) 396-2723 or via email at

Youth Worker Cafes are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit kids. This Youth Worker Café is made possible by the collaborative efforts of the IU Health Paoli and IYI.
