(BEDFORD) - Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter has announced the promotion of Lawrence County native, Trooper Michael "Zack" Robbins.

Trooper Robbins has been promoted to Detective and will serve the Bloomington District Criminal Investigations Division. Detective Robbins will now have the responsibility of conducting criminal investigations, managing and processing crime scenes, interviewing witnesses and victims and testifying in a court of law.

A 2000 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, Robbins also graduated from Marian University in 2005, where he played basketball and received his Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management. Trooper Robbins began his career with the Indiana State Police in 2007 and upon graduating from the ISP Academy, he was assigned to serve the Bloomington District.

From 2009-2012, Robbins served on the ISP Meth Suppression Team and will still serve as a firearms instructor for the Bloomington Post.

Detective Robbins also devotes his time as a Boys Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach at Bedford North Lawrence High School.

Robbins, his wife and family reside in Lawrence County.

The Indiana State Police promotions are made based upon a competitive selection process that includes written testing, interviews, seniority, overall job performance, and college education. Each part of the process is weighted and candidates for promotion are then ranked. The Superintendent then makes his selection from the top three candidates for each position.
