(BLOOMFIELD) - Ladies of Greene County, it’s time to get out your high school prom dresses, or bridesmaid dress that are hanging in the back of the closet and attend the 2014 Mom Prom.
One of the organizers of Greene County's annual Mom Prom, Vickie Aydt, says the evening is a chance for women to get out and go to a special event for ladies only and have some fun.
Whether the prom-goers come in a pantsuit or an evening gown, the goal is to have a good time and make some money for a good cause.
This year's Mom Prom, at the Old Bank Restaurant in Linton, will take place on Saturday, September 13, from 7-10 p.m. The Old Bank is located at 59 S. Main Street.
This event is organized by women who serve on Greene County's Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) as a way to raise funds to help pay the expenses of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners at Greene County General Hospital.
Tickets are $20 each and all proceeds will go into the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Fund.
Last year's prom generated over $1,700 for the fund.
The SANE nurse is specifically trained in forensic exams for sexual assault victims. It's a specialized and careful examination to collect forensic evidence that is crucial for prosecution.
The Greene County Daily World reports, in years past, victims of sexual assault had to travel outside the county for an exam. Thanks to the efforts of Greene County's SART in supporting the nurses and raising funds, local victims are going to be able to get the services and care they need at Greene County General Hospital, without having to leave the county.
Registered Nurses Gina Camp and Melinda Meyer are the first RNs from Greene County General to complete their training and become certified as SANE nurses -- both will be attending Mom Prom.
Mom Prom 2014 will feature music and dancing, entertainment provided by a DJ, with great food and refreshments, and the "paparazzi" will be there to take prom pictures.
T-shirts commemorating the event will be available for purchase at a cost of $10.
Another highlight of the evening will be the crowning of this year's prom queen. Each year's queen is determined by the popular vote of all the participants on prom night. Last year's queen was Julie Johnson.
Donations are being accepted for a silent auction - all proceeds from the auction will also go into the SANE Fund. Many local businesses have contributed auction items including crafts, candles and gift certificates.
This year's event is sponsored by the UDWI REMC Community Fund.
A special thanks goes out to REMC for their grant that pays for the whole event including the expenses of the caterer. Aydt says with the expenses paid, all of the funds raised through ticket sales and the silent auction will go straight into the SANE fund.
Tickets to the prom, available for ladies only, who are 21 and older, should be reserved in advance if possible, so the caterer can make plans for the food service.
The ticket price of $20 includes appetizers and a great spread of food with iced tea and lemonade.
