GE Officials Are Not Saying If Sale Of Plant Will Affect Workers

Last updated on Wednesday, September 10, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - General Electric is selling its appliances business to a Swedish manufacturer for $3.3 billion.

Officials invested $93 million in the Bloomington plant in 2010 which creates side-by-side refrigerators, but a drop in demand caused the company to lay off workers three years later.

Now officials are saying it is too early to tell how the sale will affect the remaining 380 workers at the plant.

The company announced this week plans to sell its appliances business to Electrolux this week. The sale includes the Bloomington plant. But before that can happen, regulatory agencies must approve the sale, which is expected to be finalized next year.
