(JASONVILLE) - Details have been released in the murder of Derek Fulford of Jasonville.
Doug Lambermont has been charged with the murder. Fulford was Lambermont's brother-in-law; Lambermont was married to Fulford's sister.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Lambermont shot Fulford four times with a Smith & Wesson .380 semi-automatic pistol last Monday afternoon in the front yard of a home on North Ridge Road near Jasonville.
Police received a call at 5:20 p.m. reporting Lambermont had shot Fulford. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and Fulford was taken to Greene County Hospital where he was pronounced dead not long after arriving.
Forensic Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr says Fulford died from a gunshot wound to his head and chest.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Fulford and Lambermont were involved in a family feud and another incident had taken place following a family wedding on Saturday - a fight between Fulford and other family members. One witness told police Fulford started the fight.
Lambermont explained one man had received injuries during the fight and he (Lambermont) had called the police. Police responded but no arrests were made.
Prior to the shooting incident, on Monday, Fulford had sent a group text message to several family members in which he belittled Lambermont.
Later on Monday, Lambermont and his wife (Fulford's sister) went to the Fulford residence. Fulford was inside when they entered the house. Witnesses say there was screaming and yelling. Lambermont then left the house and was trying to get away from Fulford, but Fulford followed him out, jumping off the porch and into the yard.
Lambermont told police he was afraid of Fulford and knew if Fulford hit him like Lambermont had seen him hit other people, he would be paralyzed or dead. During the fight Fulford went after Lambermont throwing several people out of his way to get to him.
Lambermont had the gun in his pocket when police arrived and told them, "I tried everything, he kept coming at me. I did what I had to do."
Several individuals were present during the screaming match and told police Fulford was unarmed and did not hit Lambermount, but he did threaten to "beat his ass" and that is when Lambermount told him to "please stop" and was making his way to his van to leave.
Fulford continued toward Lambermont and was screaming "shoot me" as he lunge at him
Lambermount fired three shots and Fulford kept coming. Lambermont kept firing until Fulford fell.
