Daviess County Speeding Up Work On Phase 2 On County Road 900 East

Last updated on Tuesday, September 30, 2014

(DAVIESS CO.) - Earlier this month Daviess County officials celebrated the opening of the first phase of the construction project on Odon-Cannelburg Road with a ribbon cutting.

The Washington Times Herald reports, the work marked the end of about two years and $5.4 million of work and a short construction respite along the busy road. Now commissioners approved the allocations for moving utilities along phase two of the project from just north of County Road 550 North to near County Road 800 North.

The county approved agreements for $416,000 for Daviess County Rural Water to relocate the lines in the next construction area.

They also approved $172,000 for Daviess-Martin Rural Electric Co-op to move power lines and $26,000 for Daviess-Martin Rural Telephone to move their lines. While the county will provide the upfront cost 80 percent of those funds will be reimbursed under a federal grant.

The work on phase two will be nearly identical to phase one. The travel lanes will be widened, buggy lanes will be added and the road will get larger shoulders.

The plan is to separate the buggy traffic from the cars, trucks and semi's that use the heavily traveled road through the heart of Daviess County's Amish country and make the road safer.

The county hopes to have the road construction project ready for bids this fall so that they can be let in February.
