City Of Mitchell To Purchase Lift Station From Former Mayor

Last updated on Thursday, September 11, 2014

(MITCHELL) - Mitchell City Council members agreed to purchase a lift station from Former Mayor Jerry Hancock.

During his term as mayor, Hancock built the lift station, near the Kingdom Hall, to support possible development southwest of Mitchell.

The area was never developed, but the city does use the lift station, which Hancock is paying the electric bill.

Hancock pays the bill because, according to state law, the city can't because it does not own the facility.

The council voted to use $100,500 of sewer funds to purchase the lift station from Hancock. Once ownership is transferred to the city, needed repairs to the pumps will be done.
