Catalytic Converter Thefts

Jasper Police Department says another incident of a catalytic converter theft has been reported.

Police say thieves stole a catalytic converter off a new truck on the Ruxer Ford Lincoln car lot in Jasper. .

Police say this is another incident in a string of thefts in which catalytic converters are being removed from parked vehicles.

Catalytic converters were taken from parked trucks at Audio World, Hedinger Beverage,

Damages to the trucks is estimated to be about $5,800.

Thieves are attracted to stealing catalytic converters because they contain platinum, a metal more valuable than gold. The parts are expensive to replace with prices ranging from $450 to over $1,000.


A reward for $500 has been offered by the Community Strike Force since the first incidents were reported.

Ruxer Ford Lincoln has increased the amount to $3,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever stole the car parts and damaged the trucks.
