Brown Co. Man Arrested After Assualting Woman

(FRUITDALE) - An incident on August 31 near Hornettown Road resulted in an hour long standoff between a Brown County man and police from four agencies.

35-year-old Daryl Pfaehler was arrested Aug. 31 and charged with criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony; battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor; and failure to stop after accident resulting in non-vehicle damage, a Class B misdemeanor.

The Brown County Democrate reports, the woman called police after she went to visit Pfaehler in the 9400 block of State Road 135 North with her 4-year-old child.

She told police that Pfaehler had used meth and said he was wanted to have sex with her. According to the probable cause affidavit, when she refused, he became angry and pushed and grabbed her. She fled to her van to try to leave, but discovered Pfaehler had taken her keys.

Hours later, he let her in to get her keys. The woman told police that while she was inside, Pfaehler became angry again and she fled into the bathroom. She said he knocked a hole in the door, entered the room and struck her several times.

He fled in his vehicle. She then called police.

Police found Pfaehler's vehicle crashed into a guardrail on Hornettown Road. He was not near it.

Police received a warrant to search his home and found him there.

Morgan County SWAT team entered the home and arrested Pfaehler as he tried to escape through an air vent in the attic.

Brown County sheriff's officers and officers from the Nashville and state police also assisted.

According to court records on July 15, 2015, Pfaehler appeared in court and pleaded guilty to an amended count of disorderly conduct in exchange for his guilty plea the prosecutor agreed to dismiss the other charges.

The court accepted Pfaehler's plea and he was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 6 days executed and the remainder suspended. He was given credit for 3 actual days served. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.
