Bra Decorating Contest To Help Cancer Patients

Last updated on Wednesday, September 3, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Curves and Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services (LCCPS) are hosting a first annual “Curvaceous Tatas” bra decorating contest to celebrate breast cancer awareness month in October.

"Curves mission is to strengthen woman," says co-owner Debbie Isom. Isom is excited to sponsor this fundraiser while having fun, raising funds, and stressing the importance of good health for women.

LCCPS is a county-wide volunteer group, says Brenda Mckain, secretary for the group, and adds that while the group assists patients with various types of cancer, proceeds from this fundraiser will assist breast cancer patients.

Mckain stresses that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer; breast cancer being the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, and the second leading cause of death in women.

Isom says that bras will be accepted October 1st - Oct. 15; voting will begin Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. and end November 5 at noon. The winner will be announced on November 5 at 3 p.m.

Bras will be on display until November 19 and must be picked up before November 21.

The top 3 winners will receive a prize including a 1 month membership to Curves with the first prize winner receiving a gift certificate to French Lick Comfort Suites.

Bra creations can contain a slogan or title or may also be in honor of a loved one fighting cancer or to memorialize a breast cancer victim.

Each entrant will receive a breast cancer self-exam kit valued at $24.95 donated by Curves and a pink light bulb donated by Bulbrite.

Winners will be determined by the number of tickets voting for the entry. Entries can be created by individuals, groups, or businesses.

Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00, which can be purchased at Curves.

Isom welcomes the public to come and view the creations and vote for their favorite.
