(UNDATED) - Better Business Bureau serving Louisville, Southern Indiana, and Western Kentucky is warning consumers who are looking to buy the new iPhone 6 to beware of online scammers.
An online search for the iPhone 6, has the phone for sale starting at $200 at the Apple Store. However, further search results has sites listing the phone for $800 to $1800.
BBB's Vice President/Communications, Reanna Smith-Hamblin says, "When a new, popular product comes out, like the iPhone 6, scammers always find a way to exploit the hype surrounding it!!" A majority of the time the scams happen online.
Here are some other scams to look out for:
Social Media iPhone Scams:
Beware of ads offering a chance to win a free iPhone 6 on Facebook. These ads often get you to "like" their page, then take you to fake promotion sites, where you give personal information through online surveys. On Twitter, a post goes out asking the person to click on a link to claim their new iPhone 6.
Fake Emails:
Emails claiming a person can win a new iPhone 6 if they enter personal information into an online form. Personal information like social security numbers or bank account information is requested. Also, beware of emails with attachments. The attachment could load malware onto your computer.
The best way to secure an iPhone 6 is to go to the store and buy it from there.
