Bank Robber In Custody

Last updated on Thursday, September 4, 2014

(JACKSON CO.) - A 22-year-old man has been arrested for the robberies at the Centra Credit Union bank in Seymour and the People’s Bank in Crothersville.

The robberies occurred within an hour of each other last Thursday.

Indiana State Police, Seymour Police Department, and FBI investigators have been working tirelessly on the investigation.

Evan Stewart, of Shelbyville, was arrested Wednesday by Forest Park police officers in Ohio. He is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Stewart is accused of bank robberies that occurred in late July in Forest Park and Clifton in the Greater Cincinnati area. He is also the suspect in two bank robberies that occurred in the Louisville, Kentucky area in early August as well as the two Jackson County robberies last week.

Formal charges of robbery are expected to be filed against Stewart in Jackson County later this week or early next week.

"The cooperation and sharing of information between the Indiana State Police, Seymour Police Department, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies in Ohio and Kentucky along with the tips investigators received from the public were key to solving these robberies," says ISP Detective Roger Drew.
