Last updated on Friday, September 5, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington and the American Red Cross are hosting a blood drive at the Farmers’ Market Saturday.

The blood drive will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and held at City Hall, in the Council Chambers.

The blood drives are open to the general public and no appointment is necessary.  Generally, anyone who is at least 17 years of age, weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good health can donate whole blood every 56 days and platelets up to 24 times a year.  There is no upper age limit for donation.

Those who decide to donate blood should eat and drink plenty of water beforehand.  Also, people who have visited certain foreign countries or who are ill and taking certain medications may not be able to donate. Nurses will be available to screen patients before they donate blood to determine if they are eligible.

For more information on donating, please visit www.givebloodgivelife.org or contact Health Projects Manager Nancy Woolery at 349.3851.
