Worthington Man Receives Record Number Of Citations For Ordinance Violations

Last updated on Thursday, August 14, 2014

(WORTHINGTON) - The Worthington Town Council voted to proceed with litigation against a Worthington man who has received a record number of local ordinance citations.

John Somuk has failed to bring his property, located on Main Street, into compliance with town ordinances.

Somuk's attorney says his client will if the town agrees to drop the accumulated fines Somuk is facing.

But the council says the issues with Somuk have been on-going with both the council and the Worthington Police Department. And even after numerous citations, Somuk has refused to cooperate.

The Council voted unanimously to move forward with legal proceeding against Somuk.

According to Worthington Town Marshal Randy Raney, officers have written 64 citations against Somuk just for animals running at large violations. Police say Somuk has substantial numbers of ducks and chickens which run loose through town. The fine associated with each citation is $50.

He has also violated vehicle issues and issues with the care of town right-of-way.

Police have issued citations at the rate of one a day for failure to comply with a town ordinance.
