Woman Arrested After Crashing Vehicle

Last updated on Monday, August 18, 2014

(MITCHELL) - A Huron woman was arrested after she told police a deer ran into the path of her 1997 General Motors Jimmy early this morning.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 50-year-old Leeann Walls, was traveling west at approximately 50 to 52 miles-per-hour on U.S. 50 West, near Watson Merry Road when she says a deer ran from the north side of the highway into the path of her Jimmy.

Walls told police she swerved to miss the deer and ran off the north side of the highway and went about 210 feet before colliding with a guardrail

After the collision the vehicle spun around and Walls continued to travel west for about 81 feet and at some point crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic.

She then drove off the south side of U.S. 50 west and drove through a yard in the 5300 block of U.S. 50 West and collided into a wooden fence owned by Carl Lee.

Walls continued traveling through the yard colliding with a bush and then a building, also owned by Lee, where the vehicle stopped.

Walls was not injured, but was checked out at the scene by a Seals ambulance crew and first responders from Huron Volunteer Fire Department.

Police say Walls was intoxicated and blew a .113 on a portable Breathalyzer. She was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment.

Police says it should be noted that the roadway was wet and there was some fog in the area at the time of the crash.
