(SALEM) - The largest Walmart in Kentuckiana is coming to Salem.

After a recent meeting with Cedarwood Development, Mayor David Bower says most of the permits have been finalized, the group is waiting for IDEM and road permits, which take time and for utilities to be placed on the property.

The Salem Leader reports that the planned retail store is expected to be more than 150,000 square feet and employee 300 to 400 Walmart employees and additional employees for restaurants and ancillary businesses located around the facility.

The store, which is being built on the eastside of Salem, will feature a garden center, tire and lube center, pharmacy, full grocery selection as well as general product lines.

There will be approx. 640 parking spaces in the parking lot.

Other plans for the site include a Murphy Oil Fuel Center and several retail outlets in a mini-mall setting as well as restaurants - both fast food and menu-style.

Bower says the construction should begin early in 2015 and should be completed by the original estimate of Fall 2015.
