(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour man was sentenced to serve 23 years in jail after he held his girlfriend captive for more than three hours at knifepoint and beat her during an incident in April 2013.
The woman was eventually able to escape through a window.
42-year-old Billy Wayne Nunley pleaded guilty to attempted criminal deviate conduct, a Class A felony, on June 27. The state agreed to drop 11 other charges. Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Richard Poynter sentenced Nunley to 23 years in prison, suspending three years of the sentence and ordered Nunley to spend those years on supervised probation.
As part of Nunley's sentencing, the judge ordered he should have no contact with the woman, should not be within 1,000 feet of her home or business or any place that he knows her to be.
He also has to complete an anger management program and enroll in an alcohol and drug abuse program approved by the Jackson County Probation Department and register as a sex offender.
According to court records Nunley had been convicted two times previously on domestic battery charges involving the same woman.
Nunley was arrested after police were called to Oak and Walnut street on April 18, 2013 after a report of disorderly conduct.
When police arrived they found a woman "visibly shaken" with blood and cuts on her legs and a swollen and bruised face sitting in a truck.
The woman told police that Nunley, was her on-and-off boyfriend, had beaten her for about three hours at their apartment before she was able to escape after breaking a window and crawling out.
During the beating, Nunley strangled the woman, held a knife to her face and told her she'd "be dead by midnight"
Nunley also cut off the woman's pants, forced her to have oral sex and made her use sex toys on herself.
The woman told police Nunley was angry after the two got into an argument over a vehicle they had purchased. Police were called, but Nunley left before police arrived because he was wanted on a warrant. But when police arrived the advised the woman it was civil matter and left.
The woman told police she knew Nunley would be mad so after police left she went to the bedroom and locked the door.
when Nunley arrived home, he kicked in the door and began beating the woman.
Another roommate arrived home three hours later and that was when the woman was able to break a window and escape while the roommate called police.
When police arrived they found Nunley, intoxicated and he was arrested.
The woman was taken to Schneck Medical Center for treatment.
