Salem Woman Arrested After Causing Disturbance At Hoosier Hills PACT Shelter

Last updated on Monday, August 4, 2014

(SALEM) - A Salem woman was arrested after she caused a disturbance at the Hoosier Hills PACT Domestic Violence Shelter.

Officers were called to the shelter on July 16, after a report that 29-year-old Jessica Meeks was intoxicated and was pushing other residents and scaring their children. Witnesses told police Meeks was upset because no one would take her to Louisville to see her drug dealer.

29-year-old Jessica Meeks, kicked, screamed and fought with officers as she was escorted out of the building. She allegedly spit in officers' faces as they placed her in the front seat of a patrol car. She then proceeded to kick and break the police car windshield.

Officer took Meeks to St. Vincent Salem Hospital where she continued to fight with police and hospital staff. Meeks told police and staff that she needed something to "take the edge off" because she was addicted to opiates and was suffering from withdraws.

Meeks was found to be medically stable, but her blood-alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit.

She was arrested and charged with battery on a police officer, battery by bodily waste, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
