(OWEN CO.) - Police are investigating possible credit card misuse in the Owen County Auditor’s Office.
Chief Deputy Auditor Angie Lawson has been placed on a paid leave of absence while the investigation continues.
Indiana State Police spokesman Curt Durnil confirmed that detectives in the criminal investigation division at the Bloomington state police post are investigating criminal allegations arising from the Owen County Auditor's Office.
Morgan County Deputy Prosecutor Robert Cline, the special prosecutor in charge of the case, has sealed an affidavit alleging crimes committed, so it is not available for public view.
Owen County Attorney Richard Lorenz confirmed that Indiana State Board of Accounts personnel have moved into the auditor's office this week and are reviewing ledgers and financial records. But did say the crime does involve the misuse of credit cards.
Individual office holders as well as county departments have been issued credit cards over the years, but that they are supposed to be used mostly for emergency purposes. All county credit cards have been frozen for now and cannot be used.
