Last updated on Wednesday, August 6, 2014

(SEYMOUR) - A wreck early Sunday morning landed a Seymour man in jail.

32-year-old Mario Zarate-Garcia of Seymour was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown early Sunday morning on three counts of neglect of a dependent and operating a vehicle while intoxicated and blood-alcohol content of 0.15 or greater, each a Level 5 offense.

According to police, Zarate-Garcia was arrested after he crashed his silver Nissan into a telephone pole at Burkart Boulevard and Fourth Street in Seymour. He told police he was on the way to pickup his girlfriend from a factory on Seymour's east side.

When police arrived at the scene they found three children, a 9 months old, 5 years old and 7 years old in the car.
None of the children were injured. Police say the girlfriend is the mother of the children.

Jackson County Emergency Medical Service personnel were called the scene, but no one was taken to the hospital for injuries. The children were released to their mother and Zarate-Garcia was taken to jail.
