(LYONS) - 30-year-old John Henderson of Lyons is facing charges of aggravated battery, burglary, battery by means of a deadly weapon, intimidation and theft after he allegedly broke into a home and beat a woman with a prosthetic leg.
Greene County deputies arrived a man told police that Henderson, who had two prosthetic legs, was inside the home and Henderson's wife was down the road in a ditch bleeding.
Police found Henderson sitting on the back porch steps. Henderson, who was covered with blood, was handcuffed. Police noticed his left prosthetic leg was on his right leg and his other prosthetic leg was in the driveway. They also found two 12-gauge shotgun slugs in his pocket and a bottle of pain relievers and a burnt marijuana cigarette in his pocket. There were also two large knives on the step near Henderson.
One of the knives had blood on it. Police say Henderson was under the influence of drugs and or alcohol and he was uncooperative with police.
Henderson told police he and the woman had gone to visit the resident's ex-wife and that he and his wife had gotten into a fight after he called her fat.
Henderson told police he kicked in the back door of home to hide from the woman.
Henderson told police the woman attacked him, leaving a large cut on the right side of the head. He then told police he had pushed and hit the woman in the shoulder, but police says that did not explain the large laceration on the right side of the woman's head.
Henderson told police that the couple had done nothing wrong, other than the woman had beaten him and asked what was wrong with that.
When police asked about the pain pills which belonged to the homeowner, Henderson became aggressive, telling police he was done talking and that police needed to take him home, take him to jail, or hire him a lawyer, because he was about to hit the officer in the face.
Henderson was treated by a Greene County Ambulance crew and he was then taken to the Greene County General Hospital.
Police spoke to the homeowner who told police that they knew Henderson, but had asked him to stay away from his property.
The homeowner returned just after 5 p.m. and found his back door kicked in and heard a woman screaming down the road.
The homeowner found the woman who told him that Henderson was in his home and that Henderson had "split her head open".
The man called police and returned to the home to find Henderson breaking glass and saying "Alright now I can party". The man did not go inside the home because he was afraid Henderson had found the loaded shotgun.
The man remained outside until the police arrived.
Police found that Henderson had allegedly placed several of the homeowners' belongings in a box and bag in an effort to steal them. Those items included two-dollar bills, DVD Cleaner and DVDs. Police say the house was also ransacked and a television was knocked over, mattresses were flipped and the locked bedroom had been broken into.
The woman told police that she and Henderson had walked to the residence to talk to the homeowner's exwife about having her hair cut. When they realized no one was home they entered the home and that is when the argument between her and Henderson started.
The woman told police Henderson had hit her in the head with a bottle. That she then tried to run away and that is when Henderson tackled her and beat her with his fist and prosthetic leg.
The woman claimed that Henderson injured himself while they were walking down the railroad tracks to the home, by taking a green beer bottle and hitting his own head. Police did find a cooler containing beer with blood on its lid, blood stained gravel, and broken green glass along the railroad tracks, which appeared to be consistent with her statement. Hospital staff did remove a small pieces of green glass from Henderson's injury during his treatment.
His bond was set at $19,000 with an optional cash amount of $1,900.
