(BEDFORD) - An Avoca man was arrested after police were called to the Budget Inn at 12:49 a.m. Saturday about a man allegedly destroying a room.
Before police arrived the man, 37-year-old Jesse Mills, was seen leaving in a maroon Cavalier.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers spotted the vehicle at 22nd and M streets and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle was stopped in front of Rainbow Apartments.
When police approached the vehicle, Mills opened the door and that is when police found an open container of an alcoholic beverage.
Police determined Mills was intoxicated and he was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .15 or greater, OWI with a blood-alcohol content of .08 or greater and open container.
As officers went to place Mills in handcuffs they noticed something clinched in Mills' fist.
Officers asked Mills to open his hand and he refused.
"There was a struggle with officers, who had to take Mills to the ground," Parsley says. "Mr. Mills finally opened his hand and officers discovered he was holding a wadded up paper towel."
Mills was then charged with resisting arrest by force.
