(LOOGOOTEE) - A Loogootee man was arrested Friday after allegedly beating a nine-month-old infant.

On July 30, troopers with the Jasper Indiana State Police post, received a complaint from Memorial Hospital reporting they were treating an infant that had suffered injuries that caused his genitalia to bleed and swell.

Children Services was also contacted.

Indiana State Police say 24-year-old Arvel Griffey, Jr.was at a park Friday with a woman and her child while out on work release. Investigators believe the child started crying on the way back to the Dubois County Community Corrections Center and Griffey struck the child.

Police arrested Griffey Jr., of 12924 East U.S. 50, on a felony charge of battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person less than 14-years-old.
