Last updated on Monday, August 25, 2014

(MITCHELL) - Lightning struck a home in the 500 block of Clark Smith Road Saturday causing extensive damage.

Firefighters from Marion, Shawswick, Williams, Indian Creek and Huron Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the blaze at the home of Rosellen Reynolds at 5:46 p.m.

According to Marion Fire Chief Paul Gillespie, Reynolds was at the one-story home with her mother and three dogs when they smelled smoke and then noticed the flames. They were all able to escape unharmed.

The family attempted to call firefighters, but the phones were not working and cell phone reception is bad in that area.

A neighbor notified the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, who then alerted firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the homeowners and other witness lightning strike the home.
