(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University officials say they’re taking steps to prevent and respond to sexual assault on the university’s seven campuses.
School officials say IU's Student Welfare Initiative will help ensure its responsiveness to federal laws, including Title IX and the Campus SaVE Act, which require schools to take action to respond promptly and effectively to sexual violence and harassment.
The university has created a council comprised of top-level university administrators to ensure that student welfare is a priority at the highest levels. The initiative's goal is to improve coordination, provide better consistency and assist intra-campus and inter-campus communication about sexual assault.
The Bloomington campus is currently undergoing a routine compliance review by the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights regarding its handling of reports of sexual harassment and assault.
