Improvements Planned For North Junction Of State Road 45 And 54 In Greene County

Last updated on Thursday, August 28, 2014

(LITTLE CINCINNATI) - State Representative Matt Ubelhor (R-Bloomfield) and the Indiana Department of Transportation announced traffic safety improvements planned for the north junction of State Road 45 and State Road 54 at Little Cincinnati, including a passing lane for SR 45 traffic.

In the short term, INDOT will mount flashing beacons on the "New Traffic Pattern Ahead" signs and install "blinders" to ensure the stop sign is only visible to S.R. 54 traffic heading southeast. Rumble strips will also be added for S.R. 45 headed southwest towards the intersection.

Ubelhor and INDOT also announced a future project to install a passing "blister", which will provide a short passing lane for SR 45 traffic heading northeast to bypass traffic turning left onto SR 54. Construction of the passing blister would begin after an environmental review is completed and land is purchased.

In late June, INDOT reconfigured the traffic pattern so that SR 45, which makes up 80 percent of traffic passing through the intersection, does not stop. SR 54 now must yield the right of way and enter or cross SR 45 during a safe gap in traffic. INDOT had previously installed several measures to support the new traffic pattern:

INDOT urges drivers to stay alert, avoid distractions and watch for other motorists as they adjust to this new traffic pattern.
