Greene Co. Seeking Veterans For New Program

Last updated on Monday, August 11, 2014

(BLOOMFIELD) - Greene County Recorder Stuart Dowden is seeking businesses to participate in the Honor Rewards program.

According to the Honor Rewards website, the program is described as a community service made available through county land and public records offices to thank and acknowledge our nation's veterans for their sacrifices to our country.

"I'm going out and about telling businesses if they want to sign up for the program that it's up to them for what they want to offer," Dowden explained. "They can give 10 percent off or buy one, get one free, whatever they wish."

Currently the program is in its early stages as far as participation in Greene County.

The Bloomfield IGA will provide veteran participants a 10 percent discount on purchases of $10 or more, Casa Sevilla will give 15 percent off any purchase, Hartman Law, PC is offering up to a one hour consultation - a $185 value - free, and Warnick Body Shop is giving 10 percent off any body work.

"Once I get around to the businesses, then I'll get out and try to get the veterans involved," Dowden noted. "They will get an identification card that will have all the pertinent information they need to participate in the program."

In order for both businesses and veterans to participate they need only to register on the Honor Rewards website at www.honorrewards.com.

"It's so simple when they go to the website," he said. "They just go there and within just a few clicks they enter their email or phone number and they will be enrolled."

The Greene County Daily world reports, Dowden is focusing his attention solely on raising awareness to businesses and eventually veterans in Greene County, the program is currently ongoing in Crawford, Madison, Perry, Posey and Porter Counties.

He says as far as vendors in other counties honoring membership cards from other counties, it is up to the vendor.

"That's up to the individual business," Dowden said. "If they show up with an ID card, they will probably honor it, but it's up to the individual business."
