(SALEM) - The Washington County Sheep Association and Purdue Extension/Washington County are hosting a FAMACHA workshop for sheep and goat producers from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug 21, at the Washington County Fairgrounds, Salem.
Registration will begin at 5:30 pm. FAMACHA© is a diagnostic test to help small ruminant producers identify which animals in their herds require treatment for parasites. A card is used as a tool to match eyelid color to blood anemia levels, which is an indicator of the barber pole worm infection that causes anemia.
This training is important for producers who are interested in learning more about FAMACHA© and parasite control in sheep and goats.
The cost of the workshop is $20 per family for materials and the FAMACHA© card. This will be collected at the workshop, but reservations are needed by Monday, Aug. 18 by contacting Purdue Extension - Washington County, 806 Martinsburg Rd., Suite 104 Salem; e-mail dhowellw@purdue.edu or calling 812-883-4601.
