(DUBOIS CO.) - A Dubois County Sheriff’s Deputy was slightly injured when he hit a deer with his patrol car Saturday morning.
Deputy Brad Kendall was traveling eastbound on County Road 100 South, just west of Kimball Bolevard in Jasper at about 5:38 a.m. when a large deer ran into the roadway.
The deer jumped just before being struck by Kendall's 2010 Ford Crown Victoria causing it to strike the hood and driver's side windshield of the car.
Kendall suffered minor cuts to his arms from the broken glass. His K-9 partner, Judge, was also in the police car, but was not injured.
The impact caused significant damage to the patrol car and was considered a total loss.
The deer was put down by officers on the scene.
The Sheriffs Department was assisted by the Jasper City Police Department and Uebelhor & Sons wrecker service.
Harmonics Electronics is equipping a different patrol vehicle with communications and electronic gear to allow Kendall and his partner to be patrolling within the next 24 hours.
