(UNDATED) - Area law enforcement is issuing a warning to all motorists to be aware of buses now that school is back in session.
Several area departments have received multiple complaints of stop arm violations and speeding around children at bus stops and school areas.
"There is no excuse for this type of driving," says Dubois County Sheriff Donnie Lampert. "It will not be tolerated."
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig agrees.
"All parents and guardians are reminded to have children observe traffic when getting on and off of buses and when walking to and from school."
State law requires motorists to stop when a school bus is picking up or dropping off children. Motorists must stop for school buses with their stop arm extended and red lights flashing.
This law applies to all roadways except those that are divided by a physical barrier or an unimproved median. On a divided roadway, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the school bus are required to stop.
