Last updated on Monday, August 25, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested on battery charges Thursday after he allegedly covered his infant daughter’s mouth in an attempt to stop her crying.

Police say when Philip Wilcoxen's 9-month-old daughter wouldn't stop crying he covered her mouth with his hand.

Police were notified after the infant's mother took the child to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment of bruises under both eyes, her chin and collarbone.

According to Bloomington Police the infant had just been with her father, Wilcoxen, for a visit.

24-year-old Wilcoxen was arrested on charges of battery.
