Bloomfield Slasher Behind Bars

Last updated on Thursday, August 14, 2014

(BLOOMFIELD) - The man accused of walking up on a porch and slashing a man’s throat is behind bars.

Police arrested 23-year-old Michael Alec Miller of Bloomfield.

Miller was arrested by Bloomfield Town Marshal Ken Tharp just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Miller is being held on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery. Other charges are pending after the Greene County Prosecutor's Office reviews the case.

Police say Miller walked up to the porch, pulled out a knife and slashed Jeremy Kohn's throat as he sat outside with his girlfriend smoking a cigarette just before midnight.

An ambulance took 28-year-old Kohn to Greene County General Hospital, where a doctor used 40 to 45 stitches to close the wound.

The attack, which police believe was unprovoked, occurred at 501 South Seminary Street in Bloomfield late Sunday night. Miller lives on the same street - his address is listed in the police report as 930 South Seminary Street.

Neither Kohn or his girlfriend knew the man that attacked him.

Police were able to identify that Miller was their suspect just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Holt says they knew Miller was in the area Wednesday after police received a report of a suspicious person in the Worthington area, but they didn't have enough evidence to identify him as the suspect in the attack.

But by noon officers had gathered enough evidence to be able to put Miller's image in a photo line-up.

Holt says the victim, Jeremy Kohn was able to immediately identify Miller as this attacker.

After being identified, police then went on a search for Miller.

Worthington Town Marshal Randy Raney and Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Harvey Holt located Miller behind the Worthington Country Mart Grocery Store. Miller was stopped and arrested.
