(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County and Bedford police are warning resident about two scams.
The Bedford Police Chief says their department received four calls reporting residents had won the Publisher's Clearing House prize on Wednesday.
Residents were told to go to a CVS/pharmacy to get a PayPal card for $400 to cover fees.
The resident was then to return home and read the numbers off the back of the card to claim their prize.
Chief Dennis Parsley says police attempted to track the calls but had little success.
Sheriff Sam Craig says his department is receiving complaints of IRS scammers calling resident saying they owe the government back taxes and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer.
If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest or suspension of a business or driver's license.
In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.
Both police agencies say if residents receive these calls report them immediately.
