NAMI-GBA Is Accepting Registrations For Family-to-Family Educational Program

Last updated on Thursday, August 28, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - NAMI-GBA is currently accepting registrations for Family-to-Family, the signature educational program of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) intended for family caregivers of individuals with severe mental illnesses.

The classes will be held for 12 Tuesdays, September 16th-December 9th at the Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 2120 North Fee Lane in Bloomington from 7 p.m. to 9:30 pm.

"Family members can become confused and overwhelmed when a loved one is mentally ill," said Jill Bolte Taylor, member of the local affiliate. "This program helps families to better understand what is going on with their loved one's brain, what they can do to support their family member, how to navigate local resources, as well as what they can do to take care of themselves."

The course balances basic psycho-education and skill training with emotional support, self-care and empowerment. Two trained teachers, Laura Jesseph and Cathy Korinek will teach the class.

The course and all materials are offered free of charge; however class size is limited and pre-registration is required no later than Thursday, September 11th.

For more information or to pre-register for the class, please contact Laura Jesseph by phone (812.333.0341) or email (ljesseph@aol.com).

NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. At the national, state, and local levels, NAMI is committed to providing support for families in need, providing education for the public about the biological nature of these disorders, and supporting research and advocacy to improve the lives of those with severe mental illness.
