(ODON) - For the second time in less than a year, 12-year-old Andre Stoll has been diagnosed with lymphoma.

To help find a bone marrow donor for Andrea, Kim Burkhart has organized a bone marrow donor registry drive and a chili luncheon and bake sale Saturday at the Simon J. Graber Community Building in Odon. The event will run from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.

Candidates for the bone marrow registry should be between the ages of 18 and 44 and be in good general health.
The cost to join the registry is $30, a small amount for what the total cost of the testing is. Those joining the registry online pay $100 to be put in the system. Not everyone in the registry will match a patient in need or be asked to donate marrow.

A portion of the funds raised will go to Be The Match, the largest marrow registry in the world, to cover the cost of testing and the rest will be given to Andre's family.

The Washington Times Herald reports, Andre's battle began last fall, after his parents, Greg and Valarie (Graber) Stoll, noticed Andre's loud snoring. By Thanksgiving his snoring got worse and he would stop breathing.

He was taken to the emergency room and then to surgery. Physicians removed his adenoids, but discovered a mass in this throat, which was removed. Andre began chemotherapy treatments in March.

But then he started to complain about severe stomach pain.

After a PET Scan, last week, physicians discovered lymphoma in his stomach, neck and abdomen. He now needs additional chemotherapy treatments which will begin Friday. Once those treatments are done Andre will need a bone marrow transplant.

Those wishing to give monetary donations or who have questions can contact Duane Wilson at 812-257-0891 or Kim Burkhart at 812-257-4492.
