Wagler & Sons Construction Hired For Work At Mitchell City Hall

Last updated on Tuesday, July 29, 2014

(MITCHELL) - Wagler & Sons Construction of Cannelburg will convert the garage space at Mitchell City Hall into a police station, install a generator and replace the rubber roof on the building.

Wagler was the only contractor to submit a complete bid for all three components. It also was the lowest bid at $292,005.

City official are not sure when construction will begin, but hope it will be in the near future.

The Times-Mail reports, the city is converting 1,364 square feet of garage space on the south side of City Hall into a police department because of the dilapidated, unsafe conditions of the current police station on Main Street in the former First National Bank building. The building has water and mold issues, and the costs associated with repairing that building exceed the expenses of refitting City Hall.

The city is obtaining a loan from German American, which offered the city a 10-year loan with 4 percent interest. The city expects to spend, at the high end, about $400,000, but with Wagler's bid amount, it's likely the city will spend much less on the project.

The money also will be used to put a new 8,275-square-foot roof on City Hall and purchase and install a back-up generator to power the police department in the event of an electrical outage.
