Toddler Hospitalized After Found In Pool

Last updated on Thursday, July 31, 2014

(COLUMBUS) - Rescue personnel were called to a home in the 5100 block of Willa Way at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call reporting a 2-year-old had drown.

According to Bartholomew County Chief Deputy Todd Noblitt when personnel arrived on the scene, they discovered that Jazzilyn Jenkins, of Columbus, had gotten into a four-foot above ground pool.

"We are not sure how long she was in the pool," Noblitt says. "The toddler was visiting a family member at the time of the accident."

Life-saving measures were performed by family members, neighbors and emergency services personnel. The child was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital and then airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

Noblitt says that the Sheriff's Department is continuing the investigation into this tragedy with the assistance of Child Protective Services.

Noblitt says this incident should serve as a reminder about the dangers of not knowing where your young children are, especially with a pool nearby.
