Teen Sentenced To Prison For Burglaries

(BEDFORD) - 18-year-old Douglas Holbrook of Oolitic was sentenced to 16 years in prison by Lawrence County Superior Court Judge Michael Robbins for four different burglary offenses.

Holbrook will serve the sentenced concurrently. According to Judge Robbins, Holbrook began his criminal career when he was 12.

He also was ordered to pay more than $3,000 in restitution costs to victims of the burglaries.

One of his victims testified in court Wednesday during the sentencing.

Julie Hewetson told the court that she has a hard time sleeping at night. Her home was broken into at 3 a. m. in June 2013. An alarm sounded her waking her and she locked herself in a bathroom until police arrived.

A second victim submitted a written statement to Judge Robbins and a third victim a 93-year-old didn't testify.

Holbrook who was 17 when he was arrested and was waived into adult court. The burglaries occurred in June and July 2013.
